LIVEN Research Lab

Energy policy and models are too focused on decarbonisation. They leave aside other environmental impacts that must be considered to ensure sustainable energy transition pathways, such as impacts on biodiversity, raw material requirements or water and land use. In the LIVEN project we develop and adapt the environmental assessment tool ENBIOS to overcome these limitations of current energy system models.
Our objective is to create an environmental assessment tool capable of  improving decision-making when it comes to choosing between different energy policies in a specific geographical location.

Liven Lab is a research laboratory based at the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (ICTA-UAB). It was founded in 2022 by researcher Cristina Madrid López.

Energy policy and models must take into account environmental impacts.

Energy Modelling

We develop open-source energy models that integrate environmental and resource considerations, providing insights beyond carbon emissions.

Sustainability Assessment

We evaluate energy policies through a systems-based approach, considering environmental, social, and resource impacts to inform sustainable transitions.

Citizen Science

We engage citizens in co-creating knowledge, fostering inclusive participation to enhance transparency and support equitable energy futures.
